Help Your Child
Undoubtedly the easiest way to help your child with reading is for them to read each day, preferably with an adult. Children should be encouraged to read aloud and read on their own, but being read to is really important too, so don’t overlook the bedtime story! The class teachers can also provide you with ample suggestions of reading activities. Letter formation practice is a great way to support and develop your child’s handwriting. Ask the class teacher about our handwriting scheme. Use the weekly spelling lists provided, including them in sentences and stories to practise handwriting and punctuation!
Mental calculations, estimating, measuring and telling the time are important skills we use every day, as well as addition and subtraction. The class teachers are always happy to provide you with information on any / all strategies / techniques used in school to support your child’s development.
Here are some maths help videos for parents:
For younger children beginning to learn to read and write, we use a synthetic phonics programme called Read Write Inc.
